京都・祇園と並び称された風情溢れる繁華街
古町は江戸時代より、日本一の米産地を背景に出船入船で賑わい、多くの人々が交流し発展しました。現在は老舗と最新のショップが混在する繁華街として賑わっています。地下街やファッションビル、デパートがある西堀通りと、新鮮な魚介類が買える本町通りなどがあり、粋を凝らした料亭が軒をつらねています。１番町から１３番町までありますが、５番町から７番町までのアーケードを中心としたショッピングゾーンと、８番町・９番町の居酒屋やスナック、バーが連なるナイトスポットゾーンの２つに大きく分かれています。
As the largest production centre of rice in Japan and because of its open harbor, Niigata has widely developed in Edo period. Furumachi became one of most popular shopping spots where you can find both old and brand-new shops today.
You can enjoy shopping at an underground shopping complex “Nishibori Rosa”, department stores “Mitsukoshi” and “Daiwa”, and shopping complexes “With Building” and “Next 21”, and so on, while you can find markets selling fresh fish, veggies, and flowers on Honcho street.
Furumachi has 13 streets which can be categorized into two parts: a shopping zone from 5th to 7th streets and a night entertaiment zone with bars, nightclubs, and sex-related shops of 8th and 9th streets.
萬代橋を渡るとそこは古町への入り口「柾谷小路」/ 'Bandai Bridge' leads to 'Masaya Koji', the main road of Furumachi.
